General & Booking

Is there a 24 hour taxi service in Canterbury?

Yes — East Kent Taxis runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, across Canterbury and the surrounding East Kent towns. Early morning airport runs and late-night pickups are just as quick as a Saturday afternoon booking.

How do I book a taxi in Canterbury?

Book online through our website or app in under a minute, call 01227 454 454, or message us on WhatsApp. All three methods reach the same live dispatch team.

Do you offer fixed fares, or does the meter change with traffic?

Airport and long-distance fares are fixed and agreed before you travel — traffic, roadworks or a diverted route never change what you pay. Local journeys around Canterbury run on the standard council-regulated meter tariff.

Can I pay by card, or is it cash only?

Both — every driver accepts contactless card and cash. Business accounts are invoiced monthly, so no payment is needed at the roadside at all.

Do you cover towns outside Canterbury?

Yes — Whitstable, Herne Bay, Faversham, Dover, Folkestone, Ashford and every town in between across East Kent. If you're unsure whether we cover your address, just ask when you book.

Airport Transfers

How much does a taxi from Canterbury to Gatwick cost?

A fixed Canterbury to Gatwick quote is based on the booking details, agreed before you travel with no meter and no surge pricing. Prices vary by pickup town and destination airport — see our Gatwick transfers page for the full breakdown.

Which airports do you cover from East Kent?

All five London airports — Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted, Luton and London City — plus Dover and Folkestone for cruise and ferry connections.

What happens if my flight is delayed or lands early?

Every airport transfer is flight-tracked automatically. If you're delayed, your driver's pickup time adjusts and you're never charged extra for the wait. If you land early, we do our best to have a driver there sooner.

Is meet and greet available at the airport?

Yes, on request at all airports we cover — your driver waits inside arrivals with a name board and helps with luggage. This is an additional charge, so mention it when you book.

Do you provide child seats for airport transfers?

Yes — baby and child seats are available free of charge. Just mention the ages required when requesting your quote.

Business & Corporate

Do you offer taxi accounts for businesses?

Yes — free to open, no minimum spend, with monthly VAT invoicing and priority dispatch. See Open an Account to get started, usually set up within one working day.

Can I book taxis for employees, guests or clients on one account?

Yes — any number of people can be booked under a single company account, with every journey billed to your monthly invoice regardless of who travelled.

Do you provide executive or premium vehicles?

Yes — executive saloons and larger vehicles are available for corporate travel, client transport and airport runs. See our Executive Travel page for details.

How does monthly invoicing work?

All journeys on your account are itemised and billed together at the end of each month — no payment needed at the roadside, and full visibility of every trip on one statement.

Students & Schools

Do you offer transport for international and boarding school students?

Yes — named-driver airport pickups, guardian and agency billing accounts, and term-start/end transport are all covered. See our Student Travel page.

Are you affected by the KCC post-16 SEND transport changes for September 2026?

We're not affected by the policy itself, but we help families who are — offering fixed weekly rates, PTB-compatible invoicing and trained Passenger Assistants for post-16 SEND transport. See our KCC Post-16 Transport page.

Do you provide passenger assistants for medical or additional needs?

Yes — fully trained Passenger Assistants are available on request, experienced with autism, epilepsy, diabetes and other medical or support needs.

Can parents or guardians be billed directly for school transport?

Yes — weekly or monthly billing is available for parents, guardians, agencies and schools, with the same driver assigned for consistency wherever possible.

Become a Driver

How do I become a taxi driver with East Kent Taxis?

Apply online in under 2 minutes via our Become a Driver page. We'll be in touch to talk through licensing, vehicle requirements and next steps.

Do I need my own vehicle to drive for East Kent Taxis?

In most cases yes, though requirements can vary — get in touch and we'll talk you through what's needed for your local council licence.

What licence do I need to drive for East Kent Taxis?

A valid private hire or hackney carriage licence from your local district council (e.g. Canterbury City Council), an enhanced DBS check, and a suitable licensed vehicle.

Lost Property & Complaints

I left an item in the taxi — how do I get it back?

Contact us as soon as possible via our Contact page, selecting "Lost Property". Include your journey date, approximate time and a description of the item — a booking reference speeds things up but isn't required.

How do I make a complaint about a journey?

Use the Contact form and select "Complaint", including the date, route and driver name if known. Every complaint is reviewed personally, with a reply within one business day.

Are your drivers DBS checked and insured?

Yes — every driver is enhanced DBS-checked, fully insured, and licensed through the relevant East Kent district council. It's a legal requirement, not an optional extra.
